From Growing Solution Complexity to Clear Release ControlOur client maintained a mature DevOps infrastructure with multiple pipelines, environments, and Power Platform solutions. Each solution could exist in several versions and had to be delivered to different clients according to their individual setup.
Whenever the development team prepared a new solution version, it was published to the artifact repository. From there, the team needed to understand how that release related to every client environment. Several questions had to be answered before an update could move forward:
- Which versions are available for each solution?
- Which one is the latest?
- What features are included in each version?
- Does a specific client require an update?
As the number of solutions, versions, and client environments grew, gathering this information became increasingly time-consuming. The company needed a structured way to turn fragmented deployment data into clear, client-specific actions.
Building a Consolidated View of the Solution LandscapeWe created a dedicated tool that collected and organized information across the client's DevOps and Power Platform environments. For each solution, the tool identified all available versions in Power Platform, and highlighted the latest one. It also captured whether each solution was managed or unmanaged, providing the technical context required for release planning.
This created a centralized view of the entire solution landscape. Teams could review the current state of solutions without manually checking multiple artifacts, environments, and deployment records.
Mapping Versions and Features to Client EnvironmentsVersion availability represented only one part of the release process. The customer also needed to understand what had already been deployed for each solution and what functionality every version contained.
The tool mapped solution versions to individual client environments and captured the associated feature set. This allowed the team to compare the current configuration with the latest available release. Based on this comparison, they could quickly determine whether an update was required. The decision was supported by clear information about version differences, deployed features, and solution status.
Creating a Client-Specific Deployment FlowEach solution had a separate pipeline configured with its own variables. This approach enabled the company to account for differences between environments while keeping the deployment process structured and repeatable. Once the tool identified that a solution required an update, the relevant pipeline could be launched with the appropriate configuration. The deployment flow reflected the client’s current solution version, required feature set, and target environment.
This reduced the effort involved in preparing client-specific releases and gave the delivery team a consistent process for moving new solution versions from artifacts to production environments.
Achieving Greater Visibility and Deployment ReadinessThe resulting solution provided our customer with a clear connection between development artifacts, Power Platform solution versions, client environments, and deployment pipelines.
With the new tool in place, the organization could manage releases across multiple clients with greater visibility, accuracy, and consistency. New solution versions became easier to assess, and every client update could follow a controlled path based on reliable deployment data.
